Rain dampened our excitement but we still proceed with just a small umbrella. It was sweet walking under the rain hugging each other and whispering loves among the animals. We were all wet, including the couple sport shoes we wore, but since we were unable to undo the rain, we simply enjoyed the wetness.
Thanks to the unlimited tram rides, we first arrived at Frozen Tundra, hoping to see Inuka again while evading the heavy rain.
Kids were excited |
Many were like us, wanting to see Inuka |
After waiting for around 15 minutes, Inuka still unseen, rain still heavy, and we decided to move to watch the other animals.
Next on watch list, Raccoon Dog.
It said:"If you don't see me here, I might be having a nap in my den. I'll be out during the feeding sessions." |
Okay, they were having a sweet nap |
Yeah right, I would be sleeping as well on my bed with air-cond on such rainy day like you |
Next, Wild Africa!
Queuing to board tram for Wild Africa |
Some people enjoying family fun by walking to explore |
Hi Zebra! |
Wow, Ziraffe! |
Giraffe Skull, looked like Joker haha! |
Then, we arrived at Free Ranging Orang Utan Island. Made me felt like I was live at the shooting scene for Planet Apes. These Bornean apes were not barricaded or caged, so if Caesar jumped out to shake hands with me, I would be honored.
Neighboring the Orang Utan Island was the elephant kingdom within stone's throw distance. And there it was a teenage elephant, settling and moving its body in anxiety. We recalled that during one of the university presentation classes, the gf presented a topic related to petition to stop keeping animals in zoo and releasing them back to mother nature.
Keeping animals in zoo is considered a cruel act to the animals and the animals, losing their natural hunting and surviving skills, would suffer permanent psychological damage being locked up. Some ended up with psychiatry, some premature death, and some dysplasia.
So, little one, I will pray for you. Take care and enjoy free food from the zoo!
Beside the place of the teenage elephant was an elephant exhibition room.
Elephant skull specimen, looked like a clown mask |
Side view |
Looked like Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob Squarepants |
Elephants never forget, that explain some elephant revenge in circus |
Not far from the exhibition room then we saw tiger!
Tiger head structure with sharp incisors |
How do tigers kill with one bite? |
One of Singapore's last tigers |
The tiger was quite active in the rain.
Jumping here and there |
A lifelike tiger specimen |
As a Chinese, I understand that every part of tiger is valuable as medicine especially in China |
Tiger penis, believed to improve impotence if consumed by man |
Beside the tiger trek, we saw otters having fun as well under the rain and in the water. How good if we are trouble-less and no worries like them.
We walked through Treetops Trail and beneath it we can see False Gavial.
Proceeding further, we reached Australian Outback where we first saw Red River Hog. If you watch The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, it was this creature which Dain, the Lord of the Dwarves from the Ironhills was riding when he aided Thorin in the battle against Men and Elves. If you watch it then you will know how cute this creature is. Fat, short yet agile.
Hi Kangaroo! First time seeing one hopping around so swiftly. I heard people in Australia cooked curry kangaroo. One day I would like to try it despite the kangaroo's innocence and cuteness.
Without us noticing, we have entered the Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia! Here we saw Hamadryas Baboon!
Not far from the Great Valley, we heard loud cheers and applauds so we decided to went for a look.
It was the Great Splash Safari Show by Sealion! The acrobatic sealion was of human size or even bigger. Sluggish but somehow swift. The kids, especially, loved the sealion very much.
Watch below video of the sealion performance, I will upload more in later posts.
The sealion was cute, wasn't it? Was thinking to kidnap it but how to hide it? Simply too huge for me.
Next was African Penguin spotted crowding in a small and confined space. All seemed uncomfortable and inactive. Again, making me to think that it was time to release them back to mother nature.
Wild Africa revisited because we missed a couple of big names there.
No.1 - White Rhinoceros. Robust and strong, like the Pokemon Rhyhorn.
No.2 - Cheetah. This could be a leopard, so what makes the difference?
It is the body spots and looks. See~
Cheetah from Internet, exactly the same look I captured from Zoo |
Leopard, more like a lion |
No.3 - Lion!
The Kings of the Jungle were seen wandering back and forth aimlessly and listlessly on the pathway in their home, looked rather emotional despite having companion.
There was a room made up of transparent glass right beside the lion's den where tourists can observe and capture the lion from close distance.
By the time when I finished capturing the lions, my DSLR has gone out of battery. Luckily my Samsung Note 10.1 was there to become the successor.
It was closed to the closing time of zoo and before meeting No.4 on watch list - Puma, we missed out Nyala, Warthog, Hunting Dog, Leopard and Naked Mole Rat. Guess the Safari officers have chased them back to their own den.
And here was the Puma!
After Wild Africa, we arrived at Snake House.
Creepy and strange snake species awaited us. Too many that we did not even bother to know them one by one.
Lastly, we visited Reptile Garden. Various reptile specimens were shown.
Star Turtle |
Komodo Dragon!
Similarly as to the closing time, we at least missed Estuarine Crocodile, False Gavial, Bornean Marsh and Sun Bear in Reptile Garden.
Luckily, not the Giant Tortoise.
Well, the Giant Tortoise were adopted by Wall's. Corporate Social Responsibility?
Never mind the Sun Bear, we had the Story of Teddie's Bear.
At long last, we finished the zoo by walking and tram. Honestly the zoo was too big for us to walk visit one by one. The tram was not helping much because it was always occupied.
Last picture at the zoo. Thank you for the memories <3 br="">3>
It was still raining by the time we left. It was a lovely trip, not forgetting photo for our dinner.
Singapore Chicken Rice and 炒白果 |
Satisfying meal and day!
